Meet our Staff: Nikki Harris Holm

February 5, 2018

We are excited for you to learn more about our staff, continuing with one another new addition to the team: Nikki Harris Holm.

Nikki will be teaching Act it Outs, Theater Play, and Public Speaking this winter/spring.

We asked Nikki a few questions, and here is what she has to say…

Briefly list your education/experience in theater:

  • 13+ years working with Limelight Theatre
  • Several productions at the high school (OEHS) and college level (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville)
  • 3 years of classes/training through Southern Illinois University Edwardsville including a study abroad program in London
  • Community theatre through Cougar Theatre Company (Edwardsville, IL) and Albright Theater (Batavia, IL)

What are you most excited about sharing with Limelight participants?
I’m most excited to share my appreciation and love of theatre. I want to help participants learn to put their all into every role they have and treat everything like it’s the best role they’ve ever had.

What do you like most about theater?
I love that theatre brings stories to life. I was taught to think of actors as storytellers and theatre is the most expressive and engaging way to share those stories.

Which Limelight productions have you been a part of?
Honestly, too many to count. I started with Alice in Wonderland in 2005, and I’ve acted, student-directed, costumed, set designed, and ran house almost every year since.

Share a memory from your time as a Limelight participant.
Having been a part of Limelight for so long, I think something that keeps me coming back is the opportunities this company offers that many theaters just don’t provide. Since Limelight produces its own original shows, it allows the actors to bring characters to life for the first time. One of the first shows that really set in for me was during Lumberjacks the Musical, which was one of the first times I got to play an entirely new character. It’s surreal in a way to look back on certain roles and say, “I set the standard for this character.” To me, that freedom with character development is what makes Limelight that much more of an enjoyable experience for new and seasoned actors.

What is your dream role?
I had the opportunity to play a dream role of mine in 2016 as Catherine in Proof, but one I would want to do next would be Cathy in The Last Five Years.

What game or movie universe would you most like to live in?
Not necessarily a specific movie, but I would love to live in a world created by either Christopher Nolan or Quentin Tarantino, probably one where I’d survive though for the latter.
