Meet Our Staff: Sean Tait

March 19, 2018

Get to know Sean Tait!

Sean helps make a lot of things happen back stage ad behind the scenes. He started doing tech with a group of his buddies when he was young, and he never stopped. We are lucky that he shares his talents (and ladder climbing expertise) with us. (Image: An elusive Tait out of its natural habitat.)

We asked Sean some questions, and here is what he had to say:

Briefly list your education/experience in theater:

I started out doing theatre in Limelight’s Secret Garden in 2002. I did light crew for every show through high school and went to Millikin University for my BFA in technical theatre with an emphasis in lighting design.  I’ve done various theatre work for theatre companies, event companies, museums, and park districts in Illinois, Utah, Florida, Indiana, and Wisconsin.  Along with serving as the Technical Director for LTC, I am also the Technical Director at West Aurora High School.

What are you most excited about sharing with Limelight participants?

I enjoy sharing my love of the technology with students who, like me, prefer not to be on the stage.  Technical aspects from costumes to lights to sound to the set can make or break a show so there is no such thing as “just the stage crew”.

What do you like most about theater?

It’s ALWAYS different.  You can do the same show any number of times and you can always change something to make it a drastically different experience for the audience. This allows for an endless flow of creativity when it comes to any avenue of theatrical design.

Which Limelight productions have you been a part of?

Oh boy.  In one form or another: The Secret Garden, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (x2), Lumberjacks: The Musical!, 13: A New Musical, The Limelight 50th Anniversary Extravaganza, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, James and The Giant Peach, Twelfth Night, Seussical, The Age of Fiberglass, An Enemy of the People, Disney’s Peter Pan Jr, Legally Blonde, The Drowsy Chaperone, This Sinking Island, The Jungle Book Kids, Annie, Sherlock the Third, 101 Dalmatians Kids, and the list will continue.

Share a memory from your time as a Limelight participant.

I don’t remember much from The Secret Garden (I was 12) but I do remember that at one point I had to be on stage and open and close a door for theatre magic.  I remember being very stealthy but in reality I probably was not really hidden at all.

What is your dream role?

Anything that involves no speaking lines. And no singing. And no moving.  And not being seen.  Is there a role for a mime sitting down in a black out?

What game or movie universe would you most like to live in?

I guess anything where I could be in a buddy cop movie with Jackie Chan.
