Sarah Obert spent a decade sharing her amazing performance skills on the Limelight stage. From her first performance in the Music Man to leading roles in comedies, dramas, and musicals, this triple threat can tackle anything you throw at her. She can belt to the back of a giant auditorium, and captivate an audience with the smallest nuance. She continues to grow and shine, and we can’t wait to see what she does next. Here is what she has to say about her Limelight experience:
What was your first show?
Music Man!
What is your favorite show that you did or part that you played with Limelight?
Music Man was the most memorable for me, just because it was my first experience with theatre. I remember the friends I made, and really looking up to all the older actors and how they carried themselves! My favorite show was probably Oliver because like the book, it was done with a dark ‘twist’. I am fond of the character- Mrs. Sowerberry, as she was a quirky woman fond of death. It was the moment I realized I could be just about anything onstage, and really explore more sides of myself and the human experience!
How were you involved (acting/writing/tech)?
Acting! Tech for Annie!
Did you participate in Limelight with a family member? What was that experience like?
No family members- but after time Limelight became a family for me 🙂
Most memorable Limelight experience?
The outdoor shows were such great rehearsal experiences! Maybe also being able to sassily flip a flip phone on stage (those were still being used lol)
What is something you learned from Limelight?
I learned that experiences are partially what you bring to them! If you go into something with an open mind and heart, you will gain so much out of it! I also learned that acting/performing/creating is something I want to continue for life. Without Limelight, I wouldn’t have known that.
What does Limelight mean to you?
Limelight shaped who I am today. The collaborative, friendly environment taught me to much through the years. I will forever cherish the years I spent being able to create and perform with the most wonderful and unique individuals.
What are you doing now? How did Limelight help prepare you for that?
I’m studying musical theatre at Millikin University! (Graduating ‘21) Limelight made me realize the love I have for creating, and that I want to continue professionally with it!
What is your advice for other theater artists?
Think about what a show has to say, and why it has to say it now. Theatre is one of the most beautiful forms of sharing our human connectedness, of sharing others’ stories, and even bringing political and social awareness. If you love creating, keep doing it! Everyone plays a part in the creative process! A show can’t go on without leaders and collaborating creative minds! Theatre is about everyone.
Anything else you would like to share?
Thank you to Limelight for being there for me and help mold me into who I am and what I love to do! I know Limelight continues to inspire, and give a platform for people to share themselves and grow with others.
