In the Limelight – Sheryl Colwell

June 23, 2020

Today we are featuring a Limelight fan and family member In the Limelight. Sheryl Colwell has been a Limelight fan and supporter since her son Benjamin started doing shows. After years of attending as a professional audience member, she joined some productions as a performer herself. We love seeing families share a love of theater! Here is what Sheryl as to say about her experience as a parent, fan, and participant.

What do you enjoy about attending Limelight productions?

Seeing the kids. Also I have had the privilege of watching the kids grow up, graduate, go to college, get married and have children of their own.

What does Limelight mean to you and/or your family?

The best babysitter ever! And actually Family. It was a place where my son Benjamin (Pinky) made close friends and fell in love with the written word. And how to write. And a fun place to be all summer long.

What changes have you seen in the Limelighter in your life that you could attribute to their participation?

How to listen. And writing is fun.

If you are a longtime fan, how has Limelight changed? What has stayed the same?

4 events in the summer to year round activities. The introduction of a Christmas Radio play to a full radio series. How it has stayed the same? Kids participating in all aspects of the production. Close friends and the family feeling.

Did you participate in Limelight with a family member? What was that experience like?

I did small parts in big productions my son was in. I was able to make my own friends and meet the other parents. I also was able to see how the whole process works and how the kids work together. It was a lot of fun and laughs.

What are the first three words that come to mind when you think of Limelight?

Family, Fun and Commitment

How would you describe Limelight to a friend?

A place to learn and express yourself.

Anything else you would like to share?

Can’t believe it has been 20 years. Many of you have been friends since the beginning. A hidden gem in the Oswegoland Park District.
